Investing in mental wellness: my take on corporate and group facilitation

Updated: Oct 25, 2023

Mental health issues are prevalent and can affect anyone at any time.* The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted mental health, with 50% of employees experiencing symptoms of psychological distress, which, if left untreated, can lead to burnout, anxiety and sometimes even depression. Many employees are currently in survival mode, trying to make it through the day without processing what has happened to them physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally.

As employees returned to work, there may have been residual frustration, confusion, and anger due to the decisions made during and immediately after the pandemic. They might have returned to work with less confidence and trust in their leaders and supervisors, making it the responsibility of leadership to provide transparency and rebuild morale.

This is where investing in mental wellness becomes essential. As a corporate and group facilitator, my approach is focus on helping organisations create safe spaces for employees to discuss their mental health concerns without fear of discrimination or shame. In my experience, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that investing in mental wellness can have on employees and the workplace as a whole. By providing therapy and support, I have witnessed individuals become more engaged, motivated, and productive in their work. They can better manage stress and cope with difficult situations, leading to fewer absences and better overall performance.

Moreover, providing support in this regard sends a clear message to employees: their well-being is valued and prioritised. This can foster a culture of openness and trust, where employees feel comfortable speaking up about their mental health and seeking help when needed.

By investing in mental health, companies will improve employee productivity, reduce healthcare costs, and promote a more positive workplace culture. This is not just a benefit for individuals but also for the company as a whole. As mental health continues to gain recognition as a critical component of overall health, it is clear that addressing it in the workplace is not only the right thing to do but also makes good business sense.

Additionally, taking action now can help companies attract and retain top talent and position themselves as leaders in employee well-being. The coming revolution in mental health is about improving companies' performance and creating a better, healthier, and more productive workplace for everyone.

If you're an employer or HR professional who recognises the importance of mental wellness in the workplace, don't hesitate to reach out to me. As a corporate and group facilitator, I have the expertise and experience to help your organisation create a more supportive and inclusive environment that prioritises employee mental health.

Let's work together to invest in your workforce's well-being and unlock your business's full potential.
